How to think differently- Response

This article was very interesting to read. It immediately made me think of a human-centered design workshop that I took. The workshop made similar points to the article. One of the examples used during this workshop was how many donors, charities, etc have attempted to do good by creating water wells and other sources of water in rural parts of Africa, yet do not figure out or plan how they are going to keep up with maintenance of these wells. Some local communities were not even involved in the planning. Due to the lack of planning/communication, millions of dollars have been "wasted" as well as some people have gotten physically ill from the water being collected and not properly cleaned.

I think the article points of a very important part of human-centered design- "Do you understand the problem?" In this case, most of these donors did not seem to fully understand this problem on all levels. Surface level it seemed like a quick fix that money can solve. Overall this article has reminded me how important it is to fully plan and think about my actions even if my intentions are pure.
